I’ve been using Gemini for a year or two now and have complete confidence in its abilities. Works just as advertised and thorough.

Easy to understand, easy to use! This is an example for other software companies on user interface! Great job!
Geminini is clearly designed and engineered by people who know what theyre about. The user interface looks so good, and animates so smoothly, you feel like youre in front of a really stable, really fast application. But Gemini turns out to be useful only in a narrow slice of of use cases. It works great if youre only expecting at most a few dozen duplicates. If youre expecting more than youre willing to sift through manually, then Geminis only time-saving option is to automatically discard files based on their dates. And discarding better be all you want to do. You cannot use Gemini to move duplicates, or rename them, or do anything with them other than delete them. If you were looking for a tool that could become a valuable part of a time-saving workflow, Gemini isnt it. And even supposing youve used Gemini to delete some duplicates, you still dont know if all the duplicates are really gone. This is because Geminis duplicate detection algorithm is a mystery. Does it look only at filenames and sizes, or does it actually compare the content of files? Both? Who knows? Geminis Help menu will only give you an FAQ and a 13-page user manual that offer no description of the algorithm whatsoever, and the options found in the preferences window offer scarce clues. When you point and shoot with Gemini, you wont know what youll hit and what youll miss. Before purchasing Gemini, you should read through several other more positive reviews. There are hundreds of them. See if those people were able use Gemini to do almost exactly what you want to do. If you cannot find reviews that describe your particular use case, then Gemini probably cant help you.
This is one of the very best software products I’ve used. It’s incredibly easy to use and I feel safe knowing that the files I want to keep are not being deleted. Lot’s of peace of mind here. As someone in the software business, I would highly recommend this product. I hope and pray that they will come out with even more software solutions. Buy this product! It’s saved me untold gigabytes of file space.
I use Duplicate Cleaner Pro 3.2.7 for file deletions on a Windows machine — a complex programme that requires care in selecting the various options. Gemini is MUCH EASIER to use. The only option available is to check for EXACT MATCHES. That way one can make deletions with confidence that one has at least one copy of each file that had duplicates. Other Mac programmes can look for close matches, but these requires care to make sure that one is deleting the right files.
After several frustrating attempts to remove duplicate photos, i finally contacted Macpaw for support. They told me "Gemini only works with libraries which were originally created via the iPhoto application.” None of my photos were created in iPhoto. Disappointed in not having known this bit of information when I bought my application. Would have saved me some money.
This is wonderful! It has an algorithm that lets it compare multiple files, docs, pics, excel sheets etc. and find duplicates—no comparing dates, times, sizes, opening things up and trying to figure out if it’s an exact duplicate or not. I have LOTS of duplicates, especially entire files, and this thing does what it says it does and fairly quickly. I had to organize, reduce, and compile 10 years of medical records, chart notes, scans, labs etc. and this little app made several days work into a matter of hours. I love it! I love it as much as my old toyota tacoma truck! I love it as much as… well, to be honest, since it’s in the top 100, I love it as much as reading and swimming (but not as much as my children). Only complaints: while it’s a cool little animation of files being shredded, it’d be nice to not have to click remove, remove, and then done—if you could just hit enter, enter, enter and if it would work like that, i’d love it as much as my firstborn.
I have spent two days clearing out duplicates on my macbook pro. What I love is that the duplicates are listed so that I can choose what and how many to delete. Would highly recommend to all!
I’ve bought this app years ago, but started letting duplicates accumulate instead, since it’s so difficult to use. Here’s the problem. If you use a hierarchical folder structure, you cant see which folder the duplicate files are in, wihtout opening each folder. This is very (very, very) time consuming. I wrote to the developer 3 years ago recommending an easy way to fix this. (I’m a software constultant). Simply show the entire folder path in the upper right window. Right now, it’s truncated with bunches of “…” in folder names. In other words, just increase the maximum number of characters that this field can display to something reasonable for today’s computer user. I’m on hour number four of trying to de-dupe my files because of this program flaw. I think it’s time to buy something else instead….
this is fast efficient and accurate. For someone like me who maybe makes a few too many backups of files (is there really such a thing) this is a big BIG help!
Bought from App Store and it demands a code that is not supplied. Useless $10 down the drain!
This app has saved me so much time and work in keeping my files organized. Thank you for an excellent product.
I actually find this app fun to use. In my case, I needed it to scan two different boot drives so I could retire one, making sure I had everything I needed off it before I re formatted. I just drag and dropped two folders from two different drives, it compared them and shot up the results in record time. Then when it came time to delete the dupes, it used a cute kind of shredder animation and the old files fell off the screen in pieces. Fun to use, wicked fast and very efficient. Five stars
This really helps clean up duplicate files. Worth the price.
This tool is a true timesaver for cleaning up those duplicate files. Such an easy interface for anyone from begining computer user to the computer mage. You will most likely do a lot of switching back and forth on the files you select just to make sure you get the right ones. With use you will be more confident on selecting files and clean up will become faster. The only way this could be better is if your computers AI (someday) runs the program. Most are surprised at how many copies of the same file you have on your hard drive. And does not include the backups which you should have, buy it, try it and Gemini will become one of your favorite apps.
would be nice if it had 2 mores functions : auto-select files with the longer/shorter path for deletion (so you could delete files that have not been organised in sub-folders for ex.) invert the selection (very useful in some situations)
Total waist of money. Only found a couple duplicate files. Less than 1GB of space made available.
My problem was really simple. I moved my iTunes library to an another drive with more space and was told I had to update everything from the cloud. Bad idea. I ended up with double of every file with the duplicates having a “1” at the end of the file name. Gemini can’t find them and there are no seach adjustments or preferences that help (even something simple like find anything with a "1.” in it). A waste of money. But more importantly a waste of a LOT of time.
Once I figured out the app I got my Mac all cleaned up. Totally worth the money spent. Thank you MacPaw.
This application is awesome!
