Gemini: The Duplicate Finder App Reviews

Gemini is one of the big names in duplicate searchers, and it shows. The app is powerful, flexible, and thorough. My most significant issue with it is the overwhelming focus on less-usable cutesey interface. Removing files requires a ‘shredder’ display, and there is a great deal o extraneous animation. Lastly, the search indication itself cannot be set to full screen. Recommended for all but the most pure of power users.

It’s great. Better than the other dupe finders I’ve used, if anything, just for the clear and easy graphic interface. Because of that, it’s eally easy to make choices based on the file paths. It’s also fast. so… Great If you want to move files rather than delete them, there’s a workaround, drag your files out of the trash and move them, but it might be nice to have the ability to choose the destination of the files you remove. The filters seem a little underdeveloped, maybe it’s something I haven’t figured out, but it would be nice to be able to select dupes from specific locations… It seem like you can rule out locations, but still, it’s a bit like writing upside down. you can do it, but...

Very easy to use. Took awhile to clean up all my duplicates (almost 10 years’ worth), but was very effective and efficient. Great app. Thanks!

The best duplicate finder I have used. Effectively cleaned up iTunes, iPhoto, and Photos libraries without any issues or library corruption.

i have a huge file with pictures, videos, movies and documents and at first it worked ok but them it started to ignore same files. using other apps i was able to save 39gb ou of 115gb file that were not detected by gemini.

Missed all the files with a (1) after it. I’m not really sure what their criteria is for finding a photo match but this app is way off. I’m finding myself doing the large bulk of the duplicate photo finding. This app will find a few, but for $10 I would expect better. Very disappointed in this product.

I’ve tried numerous duplicate searchers. This far and away the only app that is satisfactory. It works very well.

Gemini is much much faster. Duplicate Detective is cheaper so it is a solution if you don’t need the speed. Gemini can also select files based on folder instead of just newer or older. This is particularily useful if you want to isolate the files based on folders instead of timeline.

Paid $10 and the app didn’t find a single duplicate. I’ve had my iMAC since 2012 and use it regularly. I know I have duplicates.

I love this software. MacPaw has some beautifully designed apps, and Gemini is no exception. I got 10gb from my 500gb mac that I had no idea I had on there. It’s really saved me because I’m struggling to find more space right now. Love it and I’m so glad I got it. 5 stars!!!

I ran this software 5x and still have duplicates (and triplicates and beyond) on my drive that it is not finding, that I am finding manually. Finally, I did some checking on the folders and allowed it to carry those out after testing. Apparently it can only find so many independent files at any time. Even after I allowed it to delete folders, it still found individual file duplicates. Eventually it got all of my files. Also, beware when downloading and running the trial version. I did a first pass with the trial, then got to the remove portion, and was prompted to purchase, which I did via the Mac App store, which then downloaded a completely separate program. I contacted support, and after explaining the issue several times, they helped me to not lose my efforts up to that point.
